Screaming Butterflies is thrilled to announce auditions for their production,

The Official West Coast Premiere of,

The Prince by Abigail Thorn

A Shakespearean multiverse genderqueer romp about identity, acceptance and the roles we play for the benefit of others.

Screaming Butterflies is seeking a diverse cast of talented actors of all backgrounds ages 20 to 60+. Artists who identify as Black, Indigenous, from communities of color, Trans, and Genderfluid are strongly encouraged to audition.

​

This work contains three explicitly trans female principle characters as well as supporting characters that may be played by talent of any gender. Trans and nonbinary talent may audition for any role they feel comfortable portraying.

Interested Talent is asked to prepare two (2) 60-second Shakespearean monologues: 1-Comedic, 1-Dramatic. You may also be asked to cold read from the script.

Auditions will be held:

April 4th from 11am to 5pm
at Tacoma Youth Theater
924 B Broadway, Tacoma, WA 98402
(please note, this is not a youth theater production, merely the audition venue)
 

And

April 11th from 11am to 5pm
at Theater Puget Sound (TPS)
305 Harrison St, Seattle, WA 98109

Callbacks will be held April 19th at Tacoma Youth Theater.

​This is a paid opportunity; artists selected for the production will receive a $110 stipend, with the potential for additional bonuses pending additional funding.

--- SYNOPSIS ---
"Have you ever been trapped in a bad relationship, playing a role that doesn't suit you? Jen and Sam are also trapped … in a multiverse of Shakespeare's complete works.

On their quest to discover the doorway back to reality they notice something unusual about Henry 'Hotspur' Percy. Now Jen and Sam must decide; do they risk losing their way home to help someone who might be like them – someone who does not yet know who she truly is?"
 

--- CASTING ---

• HOTSPUR - A trans woman so deep in the closet she doesn't even know it yet. The eldest child of the Earl of Northumberland and a renowned fighter. Hot-tempered, dealing with a lot of internalized misogyny and unspoken pain, has a deeply buried sweet side.

• SAM - A trans woman from the modern day. Highly strung, nervous, motherly.

• JEN - A baby tran from the modern day.  Curious, open-hearted, compassionate.

• NORTHUMBERLAND/KING HENRY IV - A mighty warrior in his day, now reaching his twilight years and looking to secure his legacy. Loving and proud. Doubles with King Henry IV: an old lion backed into a corner. Wrathful. Quick to anger, not a great listener.

• PRINCE HAL - A gay man out to himself - it's an open secret to everyone else. The son of King Henry IV and heir to the throne. Compassionate and clever, not a fighter.

• LADY KATE - A woman ahead of her time. Hotspur's wife. Intelligent, determined, sexually confident.

• WORCESTER - A powerful noble in his own right. The younger brother of Northumberland and uncle to Hotspur. Wise, level-headed, practical.

• DOUGLAS - Warlord leader of the Scottish rebels. Macho and loving it. A bit of a meathead, but charming and witty when he wants to be.

All Rehearsals and Performances will take place in Tacoma, WA. Rehearsals are expected to begin June 30th and will typically run Sun-Thurs. Performance dates are Thursdays thru Sundays beginning September 10th, closing September 27th.

You do not need to schedule an audition time in advance, but it is preferred.
